Please take into account the following points about the payment of your course in order to be able to receive th acceptance letter from the school and to apply for your visa:

  1. In general, the Spanish Embassy in your country will require you to pay for the course in full upfront. It is not school policy that we insist on the full payment, but a requirement in 99,9% of visa applications for Spain. Monthly installments are not possible.
  2. We will issue the acceptance letter, once the full payment has arrived to the school bank account.
  3. If the Spanish Embassy in your country does not require the full payment, please forward us this information from the embassy.

How long does it take

We can’t say how long it will take to get the appointment as the embassies can be very busy. But once your application is completed and you handed it in, it take some 15 workdays (3 weeks) to process.

What type of visa to choose

  • Most nationalities do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days.
  • If you want to stay between 90 and 180 days in Ibiza (or Spain in general) the visa process is simpler as no medical certificate or criminal record is required.
  • If you want to stay for more than 180 days, you will surely have to go personally to the embassy or consulate and you will have to provide the medical certificate and a criminal record. Please always consult with the embassy. We can’t give you a full list of requirements for each country.

How to apply from within Spain or prolong your tourist visa

If you want to apply from within Spain with a tourist visa (stays for up to 90 days), you must have at least 35 days left of your legal stay. So this is a little “riskier” option as you will depend on how fast the local administration works and it is usually relatively slow. You will need the following documents to apply for the student permit (estancia de estudios).

    • Application Form
    • Current valid passport (all pages)
    • The Instituto de Idiomas Ibiza acceptance letter for a full-time program (20lessons/week)
    • Confirmation of the payment for your course
    • Academic program and Cervantes accreditation
    • Full coverage medical insurance
    • Proof that you have at least 570€ per month at your disposal for living costs (axcept accommodation)
    • Proof of accommodation in Ibiza (for example, rental contract, invitation by friend or family member or accommodation provided by the school)
    • Medical certificate confirming that you don’t have any diseases that would require you to be quarantined
    • Criminal record certificate from your home country, not older than 5 years with a valid apostille certificate

When?

We recommend to apply for this type of student permit at least 5-10 weeks before the start date of your Spanish course at the Instituto de Idiomas Ibiza.

Where?

You will have to get an appointment at the local Extranjería (Foreigners Office). We strongly recommend you to use a lawyers or specialized gestoría, who will help you with the process in a speedy manner and for a fair charge. We can recommen you some in Ibiza Town.

How long does it take?

It takes apprpximately 2 months to receive an answer from the Extranjería.
