Spanish Levels & Objectives

This is probably one of the most frequent question we receive from our students. Below you will find a description of the contents and times necessary for each level. Please note that these are average times and that some students might be even faster and need less hours and some might need more.

In general, starting from 0, we can say that you will need at least 40 hourse to get to a low level where you can speak with many errrors and understand the basics. And from 100 hours onwards you can get to an intermediate level where you start to speak a little more although still with errors. Everything above that level is a prefectioning phase which is important and it means a lot of practising and deepening the grammar concepts you have already seen.

You can understand the main points on common topics about work and school and also about traveling especially well when the other person speaks in a clear manner. You can also speak about topics which are familiar or of personal interest to you.

You can understand the main ideas of complex text and interact fluently with native speakers about a wide range of subjects while giving advantages and disadvantages or various options.

Students on the C1 level have and advanced level of the Spanish language and they understand long texts and their implicit meanings as well as lengthy speechon abstract topics. They can speak clearly and in structures and detailed way about complex topics and are able to use the Spanish language in social and professional or study related settings.

You have excellent knowledge of the Spanish language. You can understand easily practically everything you hear from a native speaker or read and you can express yourself fluently and with high accuracy also on very complex topics.

The average age of our students is approximately 32 years. During the most part of the year, our students are somewhere between 25 and 50 years old. During the summer months in July and August, there are also additionally students between 18 and 22 years approximately as this is the time of the year when they can travel. For this reason there are a little more students at the school between May and October in comparison to the rest of the year when there are a little less students.

Yes, absolutely. We have specific groups for complete beginners. Please see the specific starting dates above.

The group classes start each Monday and you will improve your Spanish continuously. Each Thursday a little progression test takes place to make sure that you are learning as planned. Each Monday you will be placed in a group according to your learning progress.

Yes. Each student receives a course certificate after completion and a minimum assistance of 80% of the classes.

No. Students of any age can have classes.

According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the syllabus of the Instituto Cervantes, there is a relatively exact description of the contents of each language level. As an accredited language school, we teach all contents in a structured manner and with a practical approach. Please click on Levels and Objectives to see how many hours you need per level.

In our course of 10 group lessons per week, you will finish one book per 3 weeks approximately.

Maxx Institutes uses course books according to the Instituto Cervantes developed especially for intensive course in Spain. The course book’s objective is to teach the Spanish language with the best possible methodology and we enrich them with extra materials, class audios and internet ressources.

Pretty much anytime from Monday to Friday between 8am and 10pm depending on teacher availability. On weekends at a surcharge. We have many teachers and can adapt in general pretty well to your busy schedule.

A typical week looks like this:
Sunday:
  • Arrival at accommodation
  • In shared apartment, meet your flatmates
Monday:
  •  8.00-9.00: Check-in at the school reception. On your booking confirmation we state at which time to be at the school reception on the first day.
  • 9.00: Welcome presentation
  • 9.20: Go to your group according to your level
  • 9.30: Classes start
  • 11.00: Coffee break
  • 11.15: Classes start again
  • 12:45: Classes finish
  • 13:00: Meet in front of the school for the interactive walk through Ibiza Town
Tuesday: 
  • 9:30-12:45: Classes
  • 13:00: Meet in front of the school for the food market experience
Wednesday:
  • 9:30-11:00: Classes
  • 11.00: Coffee break
  • 11.15: Classes start again. Revision of newly learned contents.
  • After class spare time. Students usually use this time to go to a beach a little farther away. Maybe “Las Salinas”

Thursday:

  • 9:30-9:50: Progression test and afterwards regular classes
  • 11.00: Coffee break
  • 11.15-12.45: Classes
  • 13:00: Meet at school reception for the pronunciation experience.

Friday:

  • 9:30: Discussion of the progression test and afterwards regular classes
  • 11.00: Coffee break
  • 11.15-12.45: Classes

Saturday: Students enjoy spare time or check out of their accommodation

Sunday: Students explore the island or take a 30 minute boat trip to the neighbouring island of Formentera

Our academic coordinators are highly qualified and will analyse in details your level test results as well as your weekly self evaluation. According to the results you will be placed in the best group for your level. In case, on the first day, you have the feeling that the level is too difficult or too easy, please let us know. We will test you again and place you in a group which feels right for you.

Your teacher will adapt the class to your personal learning objectives. If you want to use a book or if the teachers thinks it is a good mean to reach your objectives, we will use a book for your class. The teacher will tell you which and where to purchase it.

Before we start, we will ask you for a detailed description of your learning objective and your current level of Spanish. If necessary, we will take a level test with you. Based on this, our teachers establish a learning plan and choose the best learning materials for you.

The Instituto de Idiomas Ibiza uses course books according to the Instituto Cervantes developed especially for intensive course in Spain. The course book’s objective is to teach the Spanish language with the best possible methodology and we enrich them with extra materials, class audios and internet ressources.

Depending on the level and the intensity of your course, approximately every 3-4 weeks you will have to buy a new book. 

Absolutely. The classes work just like in a classroom. All students participate actively and will speak during each class. It is the same a class in the school, just online.

No. Our virtual classroom in the platform Zoom works on all devices. You will see a whiteboard, the teacher and your classmates. Just like in a real classroom.

If you wish so, yes. We will adapt your private lessons to your schedule. While homework assignments are a wonderful way to progress even while you are not in class with your teacher, there is no obligation. We will ask you if you want homework or not.

As these are group classes, you can’t cancel single days or hours.

Accommodation in Ibiza

All shared apartments are usually within the center of Ibiza Town. It is small and you can walk easily from one end to the other in 15-25 minutes. Approximately 3-4 days before arrival we will confirm you the exact address of your apartment.

The stay in a shared apartment is organized in weekly blocks and the check-in is after 18:00 on Sundays and the check-out is at 11:00 on Saturdays.

Yes, at an extra charge it is possible to add a night at the beginning of your stay (from Saturday to Sunday) or at the beginning of the stay (as well from Saturday to Sunday). The flight connection might be better or simply cheaper and be the reason for an extra night. Please ask us for availability as it is not always possible.

We always try to keep the ages in each apartment similar. It is not always possible though. Students between 18 and 17 years can rent a room in a shared apartment, but in general the idea is to have the younger ones together and the older ones together as well. Still, exceptions prove the rule and it remains a great mix of ages and nationalities which will allow you to be with likeminded people here in Ibiza.

During the summer months the rooms tend to be booked very quickly. We recommend to book at leads 2 months in advance. If there is less time left, there might be no availability or we can only offer you a room with lower specs.

Yes, wifi is included in all shared apartments.

It has different functions:

  1. To reserve your room. You will make the balance payment before your arrival.
  2. To cover small damages, ie, missing towels or anything broken.
  3. To make sure that all occupants follow the wheels. These are: To leave the room in the same condition as you found it on arrival. To leave the key in the designated post box when you check out

To follow the rules of living together well about noise, cleaning, etc. The damage deposit will be returned within 7 days after check-out by wire transfer.

If there is another room available, you can take a look at it and if you like it you can change. The change can only take place on weekends and never during the week and it has an extra change fee of €45. For any other case we apply our cancellation fees. It is not possible to get any refund once you stay has started.

Mallorca 50+ Spanish Course

The Mallorca 50+ Spanish course is a unique program designed for learners aged 50 and above who want to combine Spanish language learning with cultural and leisure activities in the beautiful Mediterranean setting of Palma de Mallorca.

The Mallorca 50+ Spanish course is a unique program designed for learners aged 50 and above who want to combine Spanish language learning with cultural and leisure activities in the beautiful Mediterranean setting of Palma de Mallorca.

Our school is centrally located on Avenida de Portugal in Palma de Mallorca, right next to the Old Town. It is easily accessible by public transport or car, with nearby parking facilities.

We offer courses for levels A1 (Beginner) to B2 (Upper Intermediate).

We offer two options:

  • 10 lessons per week: 11:25 AM – 1:05 PM
  • 20 lessons per week: 9:30 AM – 1:05 PM

Both options include up to 7 hours of supervised self-study per week with a teacher available to answer questions.

Courses are available for 1 or 2 weeks.

  • June: 2nd and 9th
  • October: 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th

Yes, the 20-lesson per week course is recognized for Bildungsurlaub in the following German federal states: Baden-Württemberg, Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein, and Thuringia.

 

The course includes 10 group activities per week, such as:

Yes! The course fosters a community environment where you can meet like-minded peers and make new friends while learning Spanish.

Private bathrooms are available upon request for both standard and comfort homes.
